Course Objective
Clinical Medical Assistant program is designed for students who have already completed a Patient Care Technician program or has completed programs for Advance Nursing Skills, Phlebotomy and EKG.
This program provides the training needed to complete the Clinical Medical Assistant program. The program includes 112 hours of training (approximately 8 weeks), including lecture, demonstration, learning and mastering skills (in class lab), and quizzes and final exams, for a total of 78 class hours and 34 lab skills hours. We have the equipment and supplies for students to learn, practice and master skills within the classroom setting, therefore this program does not include off-site clinical placement.
This program is designed for students who have already completed prerequisite Phlebotomy, EKG and Advance Nursing skills training, within the last 2 years. It includes review of prerequisite skills and knowledge and cover additional training in clinical skills for injections, comprehensive medication training and training in various administration functions as required by employers.
In person training covers all the material included in the class text book (Medical Assisting, The Basics, published by Hartman’s Publishing) and review of prerequisite material (Phlebotomy, EKG, Advance Nursing Skills). The class training includes lecture, student handout sheets, and critical thinking and case studies exercises. Students are provided with handbook/homework assignments and these are reviewed with students by Instructor. Students are given quizzes on each text book chapter and Instructor utilizes quiz results to guide material review sessions.
In addition, skill/lab are taught by Instructor by reviewing concepts and showing demonstration, followed by student hand on practice and mastery of skills. We have abundant supplies and equipment needed for training .
Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Clinical Medical Assistant class completion certificate and be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association Certification Exam for Clinical Medical Assistant, which is required by most employers.
Student who successfully complete will have the knowledge and skills to be qualified to seek employments as a Certified Medical Assistant, in addition to Phlebotomy Tech, EKG Tech, and Patient Care Tech.
Course Description
• Review of Phlebotomy, EKG, Advance Nursing Skills
• Instruction and skills demonstration and practice of surgical skills, injections, administering other medical procedures, wound care, and basic medical procedures.
• Care of specialty patients including, rehabilitation, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatric.
• Basic anatomy and physiology
• Medical terminology
• Basic math skills
• Medical testing, including urine testing, step screens and glucose monitoring
• EKG fundamentals: how to obtain and read a rhythm strip.
• Anatomy & physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system
• Advanced cardiovascular monitoring skills
• Medical administration, including communication, patient scheduling, records management, insurance, coding, and accounting.
Instruction is presented as a combination of lecture, video and skills demonstrations and practice, with a strong emphasis on hands on training. Students will play the role of patient for other students to practice skills.
